French commentator Anne-Elisabeth Moutet believes that young people voted for the hard-Right candidate Marine Le Pen as a “protest vote” against Emmanuel Macron’s leadership. It was for this reason, Moutet argued, that there was a “windshield wiper” voter from Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the first round to Le Pen in the second round.
