Description

One proxy war that has emerged since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is the information battle that is raging online. Scroll on Twitter and you could find equal evidence for the complete annihilation of Ukrainian cities as the total destruction of the Russian army, depending on which accounts you follow.

As usual, even-handed information is in short supply.

Independent military analysts and citizen commentators are sharing unverified video footage, territorial maps and hypothesised death counts. State media is, predictably, even less helpful, only sharing the information that supports their campaigns. So, we wonder, who is really winning the war in Ukraine? And who can we trust to give us the facts?

Seeking a way through the fog of war, Freddie Sayers and Aris Roussinos take a deep dive into reports from all sides to see if a resolution might be closer than it seems.
