After BJ committed yet more aid to Ukraine I turned to my wife and said ‘These will be the 10 most expensive points for GB in the history of Eurovision’. 😉

…but only interesting to a comparatively few people in the UK. I suspect that Eurovision has become a minority interest.

I must disagree. Despite that fact that we keep coming last or nearly last, lots of people just enjoy the silliness of the whole thing. Good excuse to have friends round, get moderately drunk and run a sweepstake on the side for added interest.

…I’ve always thought of the Eurovision as a kind of “consolation prize” for the utter failure of most of Europe to produce any popular music at all which has world-wide traction…with the obvious (but rare) exceptions like Abba (who sang in English) and the odd “Death Metal” operation like Rammstein.
Essentially, genuine, world-beating modern music of pretty much any genre or subset is either British or American…it must drive the EU completely crackers…

I only voted for Brexit because I assumed it would bar us from participating in or broadcasting Eurovision

Well there you go…..UK first with the juries and second overall to Ukraine after the popular vote. It was actually fairly well presented and most of the songs were ok. Serbia did a really avant garde art house piece – ****ing Serbia! The home of backward looking nostalgists – my view of them has certainly changed!

And have I entered another dimension? France gave us douze points. What next? Will we declare war on the USA, a la Putin, to reassert our natural role in this world and get the colonies back?
