There is no such thing as a private sector in a state-controlled economy like communist China’s.

I heard that Evergrande only paid a million or two out of the pledged $115 million.

China is discovering, all too late, that rather like real estate, trying to control a global pandemic cannot be faked.

And also;

…cannot compete with imagery of Chinese citizens being dragged out their homes and beaten in the street by “Big Whites” while pets are mercilessly culled.

It’s true that responding to a virus can’t be faked, but public perceptions, especially of of foreign nation certainly can. Ashley Rindsberg is giving us the image of people being dragged out of their homes and pets mercilessly killed. If she had the facts she’d give us those.
Sooner or later everyone will know the full facts of the Covid global death toll. Exactly how many people were welded into their homes, exactly how many people starved and exactly how many people died after drinking bleach or eating horse medicine.
Currently the Chinese results are 3 orders of magnitude better than the Americans. As the numbers harden up do you think America will come out on top ?

It is indeed striking just how many people I see with bleached lips and tongues with long tails walking around the streets these days.

If anyone took horse medicine was because governments made it impossible to find the human version of whatever you are referring to.

We don’t even know how many were murdered by the CCP at Tiananmen. We can guess, and we find that the median guess is around three orders of magnitude higher than what the CCP claims.
We certainly won’t ever get a real covid death toll from PRC, or a real telling of when this really began, or where. If you believe the numbers published by that regime, I am sorry for your loss.
In the meantime, in a few years, the only reliable number we will have from any jurisdiction that actually publishes something approximating real numbers will be excess deaths, as at least in the U.S., hospitals were incentivized to have covid patients, so, we can assume that their numbers are inflated, at least a little.
I look forward to the great retrospective, ten years hence.
