Following Donald Trump’s departure from the White House, journalists across America breathed a collective sigh of relief. After four years of feeling “burnt out” by the psychic trauma of Trump’s presidency, now was finally time that they could “get back to normalcy” and report on a “mostly, a normal, sane, empathetic presidential voice. FINALLY”.
The bravery of these indefatigable reporters notwithstanding, it is heartening to see that they are FINALLY ready to get back to the business of reporting. The Fourth Estate’s role in holding the president to account is, after all, one of the core pillars of democracy — so how have they been getting on? Below is a selection of some of the most fearless, agenda-shattering stories that we have seen during Biden’s term in office so far:
Newsweek: ‘Joe Biden, Playing as Luigi, Wins in Mario Kart Race Against Granddaughter at Camp David’ (readers will be relieved to hear that the President’s Secret Service detail made an exception and let him drive)
🐾Woof! This is our dad, @POTUS, Mario Cart racing. Auntie @NaomiBiden who recorded this, said that despite being “a little rusty, he still won (barely)”. This is one of those rare pawccasions when the “Secret service made an exception and let him drive himself.” #SaturdayFun pic.twitter.com/OnCqcuDKZm

CNN: ‘Inside the new President’s routine: Oval Office fires and early bedtimes’ (Presidents have a busy schedule and Joe Biden is no different; he’s “often seen carrying a stack of binders or manila folders under one arm” as he returns to his residence by 7 pm)
USA Today: ‘First lady Jill Biden decorates White House lawn with giant hearts for Valentine’s Day’ (Apparently, Jill and Joe “joked about which one loves the other more and kept an eye on their dogs while chatting with reporters” as the First Lady serenaded her husband with heart-shaped messages of “Healing,” “Compassion” and “Hope.” )
I know the last year has been difficult and painful for all of us. I hope Jill’s Valentine’s Day message helped brighten your day. pic.twitter.com/jdEFMSDefm

Politico: ‘”It just symbolizes everything”: Bidens bring presidential PDA back to the White House’ (As America passed the 500,000 mark for Covid-related deaths, “Presidential scholars and relationship experts agrees that the first couple’s PDA carries a great deal of unspoken significance for Americans at this particular moment in history.”)

SubscribeOur (New Zealand) papers are still doing their daily “two minutes of hate” directed at Trump. It’s like nothing’s changed.
I’ve never seen anything like the media campaign against him, though the global warming propaganda is up there as well. The method is to install an emotional reaction in the victim (you) via repeated image and message. I suspect (hope) that people are becoming increasingly aware that they’re being lied to and manipulated on an industrial scale.
Our MSM (all lefty climate botherers) are getting regular government payments so we don’t hear anything that isn’t corrupted in some way. These outfits have lost all credibility with their BS but they’re not being allowed to die.
Don’t think the ‘global warming propaganda’ will go away. It is here until our lives get a lot poorer and then a new generation comes along to ask why we don’t use our resources for energy.
Should we not at least attempt to oppose it?
Thumbs up.
Thumbs up.
Journalism is looking more and more like a closed shop for middle class kids with expensive degrees, whose parents can afford to fund unpaid internships. It’s really no wonder group think has taken over.
Sara Ditum published an article on Unherd about why she probably wouldn’t choose a journalism career today. It was very revealing about the culture and dynamics of the profession. She noted that steady jobs with major news outlets are now so scarce and precious that journalists have an enormous incentive to stick to the ideological script of their employer for fear of losing their job and being tossed into the cold, unfriendly world of freelancing. Not surprisingly, main stream media is now a series of echo chambers preaching to the thoroughly converted.
I was a journalist all my working career and I saw the hollowing out of the profession and the way it turned into a kind *last best chance* for middle class kids who didin’t have the results to get into Accountancy, Law or Tech.
One other remarkable thing, at least to my mind, is how many journalists happen to combine not only skill, talent and the various virtues required, but also have parents, close relatives, wives, husbands or significant othersalready handily placed within the profession, or it’s very close sibling;Politics…the Hapsburg Court in 17th Century Spain had a deeper genetic pool than some parts of the media have today.
It was not always like this, and in recent memory one could still get in without a degree…the only way that happens now is if you have played football, been a reality TV star or had a hit record.
The US press and media are, for the most part, an evil disgrace. Things are little better in the UK, especially across the broadcast media. GB News cannot come soon enough.
Thumbs up.
Given how much has been invested in Biden, or just about anybody, who isn’t Trumpian, is it really any wonder ? It’s maybe difficult to admit that the “new” saviour, whom so ever that might be and has been proclaimed and foretold, is in some way less than the embodiment of a perfect new dawn.
We don’t really have to look very far to see the damage that a sycophantic, uncritical, establishment can do, in the interests of entrenched ideological investment. Exploitation of vulnerable young girls, in Rochdale, to name but one, for example.
It isn’t just America….In Scotland today there is a giant boulder of a scandal rolling through the Scottish body politic, SNP, Nicola Sturgeon’s personal office and aides, the Civil Service and even a compliant legislature (with a joke of an inquiry stumbling on) and the judiciary.
Yrt it is of apparently zero interest to the Scottish media, and especially the broadcast media; STV and BBC Scotland.
It is like Watergate without Woodward and Bernstein the Washington Post or any other remotely curious journalists.
Some of the Covid political broadcasts by Ms Sturgeon have been such a long succession of questions begged, and asnswers risible that one half expects to see an audience warmer-upper hold up applause cards for the reporters, and hear them applaud and holler when they see them.
Has President Biden received the Nobel Peace prize yet? And if not, why not.
The Sycophant Examiner.
Much likeDemocrats wanting guaranteed outcomes for people, (just not white, middle to upper class people), modern day journalists are warriors for a cause. The cause is not truth, it is the ideal of a world as they want it, not a world as it is. They no longer report stories, they craft stories. Journalism as I knew it, once used to p***k the fingers of the powerful. p***k the ballon of hypocrisy. Report on the corruption of Government. No longer because Government is the hammer they want to use to mold our nation and world in to their view. It is how, Joe Biden can say, (to paraphrase) “China is different than us, they hold a different view.” Indeed, their view is that the Uighurs are theirs to do with what they want. So in Joe Biden view genocide of the Uighurs is Chinas business….and journalists go along because Joe Biden is “woke” and do our bidding. Journalist are not embarrassed by their lack of accountability, not at all as they have a higher calling. A mission. “You will be assimilated, we are the Borg”
why is the left scared of donald trump?
Is “Democracy dies in darkness” being used as a statement of intent by the gushing-press?
‘Democracy dies in the NYT newsroom’.
I REALLY REALLY want to cancel my subscription to the NYTimes which I have read for years. However, if I do, how will I know which brownstone that young couple bought in Brookyn for a million dollars or what disease that poor soul had who had visited 5 doctors with no diagnosis until he/she hit the 6th. Both are topics I can discuss with my left leaning friends without ending the friendship. Everyone cares about real estate and disease–that is if you don’t mention Trump Tower.
The kid-glove treatment of Biden is so obvious it really only highlights the derangement dished out to Trump. When I saw full, unedited clips of Trump on some conservative YouTube sites I really started to see how machiavellian the media machinations were and I started to have more sympathy with conservative views on it all – they really did have a point!!!! If I were American I may or may not have voted for Trump but I think I definitely would have had a #WalkAway moment.
#WalkAway moment, indeed.
It was the treatment of Trump and the insanity of the riots brought me out of the dark.
I considered myself Liberal – That no longer exists .
Left – is the way or no way you’re accepted.
Is it just me or is the font on the comments practically impossible to read without getting a headache?
Just you
No its not you, I thought the same. Also note when you upvote anything you no longer get a list of other up voters.
Thumbs up-this is why I reply “thumbs up” whenever I upvote…
fake news
it is not nearly as embarrassing as it was predictable.
No classified advertising. Little corporate and local advertising. Almost total reliance on subscriptions and selling subscribers’ data.
So to whom but the opinions of their woke subscribers is a modern newspaper going to cater?
Ergo, the end of journalism.
A large percentage of the world press is left wing and woke. Anything the left politicians do in the U.K. is applauded and anything the conservatives do is reported as far right. This is particularly true of Scotland.
It is in fact, worldwide in its establishment. Everywhere I read of is infected with wokeness.
Give them time, Joe can’t walk on water indefinitely, and deference never sold newspapers
I don’t know, they were still licking Obama’s boots after eight years. Once you’ve decided good and evil for the country it’s hard to change course.
Obama gets a pass because of his father’s influence on his DNA. If it were about his mother they’d hate him.
Fact.
The press knows they should not ask serious questions that have not been previously curated in advance. Mr Biden is likely not able to fully answer and his difficulties will then become more obvious to the public. The dodging may be intentional awaiting a suitable period to find him not as able to serve and immediately the first women will become President. How Ms Harris will do is unknown given her spotty experience. But history will be made if that’s important.
They are not reporters. They are partisan publicists, more interested and invested in being recognized as loyal members of the woke intelligentsia. It is important if you desire invitations to all of the right (actually left) parties.
Some of that fawning is of old-school communist leader orders of magnitude. If you said Great Leader Kim instead of Joe we’d all be snorting in derision and pitying the deluded populace in thrall to such a ridiculous media machine.
At least Putin swam across a river to get the captive media swooning. Playing your granddaughter on Mario cart?
Is the Presidential PDA a Psion Organizer – or maybe a patriotic Apple Newton?
I’m struggling to visualize the Air Force One of note-taking gadgets…
