So, apart from number one on the list not much has changed, at least with regard to this year. Even worse, in 2020 it will probably take longer than a day for a letter to get from London to Winchester.
What about playing football? Did Cromwell ban that? I will be playing this morning, before social events involving at least one proper Christmas dinner and multiple varieties of alcohol including a magnum good of Cote-Rotie.
No social Distancing Frasier? Get ready for the visit from the Police to break the party up, issue thousand pound fines, and same as then, lock you down in your house for 14 days and not even a ‘Lord Have Mercy’ painted on your door.
For me it is work as usual. I have a cold, it seems, so am isolating from my ancient parent and family, and may as well go to the job site and paint baseboard I am putting down next. Outside is chilly but bright and I have sawhorses set to paint on. Normally I do a turkey but tonight will be a hamburger and some dreadful Netflix thing, if there is anything on it I can tolerate. Maybe Henry VIII again, with an antihistamine and a juiced grapefruit with tonic water.

And just as today Scotland had to one up England.
The return of a puritan Christmas past that could still be experienced in the UK as late as the 1970s.
