New census data from the Office of National Statistics indicates that two-thirds of transwomen list their sex as female, while the other third say they are male. How does that work? It cannot be explained by biology — all transwomen are biologically male — or legal status. Three weeks ago we learned that there were 47,572 transwomen in England and Wales but, since only 6000 UK gender recognition certificates have ever been issued, the proportion who are legally female is likely to be around 10% at most.
The reality is that over 30,000 male people self-identified as female on the census — they just made up their answer according to how they felt about themselves. It’s hard to imagine so many people choosing their date of birth in the same way, so why sex? Like age, sex is meaningful, measurable, and objective, and it is fundamental to human society. While the conflation with sexual intercourse has often been awkward — the joke, ‘Sex? Yes please!’ predates my own childhood — sex has been obfuscated by gender identity, whatever that means.
Most aspects of the census are probably unaffected. The census identified only 262,113 trans people (those with a gender identity different from their sex registered at birth) from a total population of almost 60 million — less than half a percent — so for most purposes we will be within the statistical uncertainty.
But it means that the data relating to our own demographic will be seriously compromised, and that is a shame. For example, we now know that, of the 30,257 people who self-identify as non-binary, two-thirds also self-identify as female. Most could well be female anyway, but we cannot be sure.
We should perhaps be even more cautious with the data when considering the sex breakdown within age groups — the overall numbers are smaller still. I do not, for example, believe the data that suggests that 4.27% of trans females are aged over 75. That is a greater proportion than the 4.18% of trans males in the same age band. But self-declared sex has probably obliterated the data.
The age breakdown, though, we might believe. Transgender identification is a young person’s thing. Children and young adults aged between 16 and 24 are far more likely to identify as trans than their grandparents. That was hardly a surprise, but it is interesting that the expected pattern was confirmed by the census.

SubscribeI suspect the phenomenon described by the author (especially the strange population pyramid) is to do with youth culture. Which is fine, it’s how society evolves. But in previous waves of youth culture, there was no expectation that the state would legislate to protect that same culture – there never were quotas to ensure that public organizations hired equal numbers of mods and rockers. And as for punks – they never asked for, or received, punk recognition certificates. Indeed, the whole idea of relying on the state to validate novel forms of identity would have been anathema to punks. They really were cool.
I made my own Punk Recognition Certificate.
I dyed my hair purple and did my best to get expelled. If I was at school now then I would totally be self identifying as a dog.
I liked Punk, went to the concerts, but refused to conform with the Punk dress code because I thought I was so cleverly independent of any tribes. 🙂

“less than half a percent”
And yet we’re turning out entire societies upside down for this tiny percentage. Why? Honestly, I don’t understand it.
Increasingly, I am coming to the reluctant conclusion that our elites are just sexually obsessed. They’ve never outgrown the “Sex? Yes!” joke and are wrapping themselves in the rainbow flag simply to create a new class of court eunuchs. Epstein was popular among our elites for a reason. I don’t want to believe it, but nothing else makes any more sense. The sexualization of ever younger children only reinforces this in my mind; the last society this obsessed with tthe sexuality of 12 year olds was ancient Rome.
Most of the LBBTQIA2S++ (side note: that acronym is absurd since the first 3 rely on the gender binary and the rest deny it… but I digress) campaigners are likely just useful idiots who mean well and think it’s really all about “human rights” and “inclusivity” and “saving kids from suicide” etc… But increasingly, I think the leaders just want sexual access to kids.
That’s been my view too – nothing else adequately explains to transradicalize elementary school-aged children.

I hope you’re right; I’m worried that it has made tremendous in-roads into America’s schools and colleges, as well as into federal policy and law. From what I understand it’s also divided transpeople into two groups: those who know they are pretending to be women and those who actually believe they are women. I’ve known several of the former, but very few of the latter. In my limited experience, it is those who look the least like women that insist that others must respect them as such.

The Gender ID movement is insane. There are two genders/sexes and there are many manifestations of sexuality / personality. How has the glaringly obvious disappeared?
Everyone who claims T is already either L, G or B … or a Heterosexual autogynephile. T is a performance within a sexuality.
One’s manifestation of masculine/femininity mix has no bearing on one’s role in the act of procreation, which identifies one’s sex/gender.
We are on road to the State issuing GVRCs – General Victim Recognition Certificates.
The notion of ‘West is Best’ is absolutely undermined by the Gender-ID insanity.

I thought that the English census made clear that you have to state your sex, then you may specify if you identify as something or other, unlike Scotland where confusion reigns supreme – nothing new there.
OK, people may have written the wrong thing for whatever reason, but that’s on them, rather than the census.
The census in England and Wales required us to indicate our legal sex (so mine is male). Because only 6000 GRCs have been issued across the entire UK – and to both sexes – it’s clear that lots of trans people just didn’t follow the instructions.
Thanks for the reply. So the onus is on them after all, rather than the census. I suppose that there will be similar discrepancies all over (think Jedi), but when it comes to transpeople (whatever that means, and probably this is exactly the crux of the issue) people felt politically motivated to make a stand. I wonder if will know how many wrote “biology” as their religion.

The major reason why the census data is fairly useless at giving accurate statistics is because there is no real obligation on anyone to fill it in honestly, they can put what they like, and have done so for many years now. If you look back on prior census data for research purposes, you’ll find many people lied about their age, many lied about being single when they were married, bigamy was relatively common amongst the poorer classes who couldn’t afford a divorce, etc.
They also further add to errors by estimating the data for those who do not complete the census (whilst they threaten fines, etc, for those who don’t fill it in, particularly in anarchist, activist and conpiracy circles, next to nobody bothers with them, and find great entertainment in thwarting the census employees charged with trying to make them fill it in) because the very estimates they make are based on already errroneous data and tend to treat those who don’t fill it in as having the exact same demographics as the rest of the population around them.
