The GOP is hopeless. They couldn’t organize a garage sale, let alone a coherent, effective political strategy.

As a Republican I’m, sadly, forced to agree with you.

Trends in New York are real, and point the way forward. If the Republican Party wants to quit playing defense in the US, they have to come up with a workable urban policy. So much of the Democratic message is rationalization of failure, and the voters are starting to get it. Does anyone really believe that black and Latino urban voters are happy with current conditions? But no one is even trying to talk to them. You can’t just whine your way to dominance.

Still the usual problem with the mainstream GOP in cities: a lack of vision and unwillingness to aggressively engage the blue apparats ruining their cities. In Indianapolis this year, the Republicans ran a candidate who basically just said he was the same as the incumbent Blue mayor, but kind of better. He lost 60% to 40% because Republicans didn’t bother to come out and vote for a Blue Lite candidate.

Is anyone else deeply suspicious of polls nowadays? If one accepts the possibility that pollsters, and perhaps respondents somehow, were burned by the wrongness of the 2016 pre-election poll numbers, could one also theorize that they are under-counting Dem votes to frighten hesitant Dems into turning out?

What Conservatives/Republicans fail to achieve are good quality schools( focus on STEM, technical subjects and languages ) producing people who can enter well paid employment; low crime, clean streets and local government which produces value for money. Fewer people, more highly trained, more dedicated to solving problems, better paid, fewer of them but lower wage bills. Hatred from unions because reduce income because fewer members. Put all state employees through rigorous retraining to upgrade skills, sack those who fail after two attempts. If Britain could run India with a thousand civil servants why do western countries need thousands to run small cities?

Keep looking for the positives amongst the rubble of Republican electoral disasters, guys! Trump and abortion will guarantee Democrat majorities in both houses and holding on to the White House.
Only gerrymandering and the ludicrous electoral college make it slightly close.

This may be the only half sensible thing you have ever posted. I say half sensible because any somewhat objective person understands the Dems are equally guilty of gerrymandering and the electoral college was put in place for a reason.
