Nancy Pelosi has claimed that the Democratic Party had an open primary to elect a presidential candidate after Joe Biden stepped down. In an interview with Semafor, the former speaker of the House of Representatives was asked whether the excitement around Vice President Kamala Harris was the reason the Democrats never had an open candidate selection process.

Pelosi replied: “We had an open primary and [Harris] won it. Nobody else got in the race, because she was politically astute…” This, of course, did not happen. No other candidate had the opportunity to challenge Harris. Pelosi also called Biden the most “consequential president of modern times” and said his endorsement of Harris was important in the decision-making process. At the ripe old age of 84, Pelosi’s grip on the party is as strong as ever…
