As Britain seems to be returning to some semblance of law and order after last week’s riots, Greenwich council has shared some handy advice for its residents of the still-crime-ridden capital.
The animated video is designed for “Theft and Robbery Awareness”. The stellar advice it doles out includes, “Be mindful of your surroundings, especially if you’re wearing designer clothes or jewellery, as you could become a target for thieves.” So, Meantimers must keep all nice things under lock and key.
Stay safe when you’re out…
Don’t confront a thief – holding onto your possessions is not worth risking your safety. Register your valuables at @ImmobiliseCrime so you are more likely to get them back if they are stolen.#StaySafe #theftprevention pic.twitter.com/oFBfLtiJdz

It also tells residents “Do not confront thieves — holding onto your possessions is not worth risking your safety.” Given that Home Office data shows that three in four burglaries go unsolved, you shouldn’t expect to get your easily given-up possessions back.
Apparently “registering your valuables at immobilise.com improves your chances of getting them back”. The police should aim for prevention rather than a cure.
