As a fan of Nick’s work for over 40 years, this makes sense. When churches were aligned with a dominant social narrative, obviously, the teenage me rebelled against them. But now that churches are often aligned with a counter-cultural narrative, I’m more inclined to support them. Just to annoy the wokies and to get the row going lol. Comparing the 2, I have to say I find modern wokies to be much more preachy and intolerant of difference than any cleric ever was.
Except that he’s completely 100% wrong on one very important thing, the devil isn’t seeking forgiveness in any way – He hates God and has no desire for redemption. There is nothing heroic or attractive about Satan whatsoever.
When will everyone stop dragging out ye ole ‘woke this woke that answer to all personal ills’. Yeesh, It’s lazy.
“Wokies” ? What then are “the other guys”, “asleepies”?
On the actual subject, Nick Cave is masterful in his understanding of nuance. And I too have been a fan since the start.
If you haven’t listened to Faith, Hope and Carnage, I highly recommend it.

Sounds to me that he had a very good mother. I did too and it means that, as you have to keep reinventing yourself as challenges arise, you fail but you get up.
It was a very nourishing read.

A long form video interview with Nick Cave, this is why I subscribe to UnHerd. Now do Tracy Emin. Thanks.

Very nice ‘misprint’ in the intro byline for Freddie Sayers, who appears as Nick Cave.
Maybe this was proof-read by a chatbot?
Happy Easter.

I never “got” Nick Cave’s music or lyrics despite being pressed by my friends to listen back in the day. “He’s a genius…” they earnestly told me with awe and reverence, but I genuinely found it boring and hugely overrated. I still do. Having read this interview I haven’t changed my view of Nick Cave or of rock stars coming over all intellectual and discussing the meaning of life…

Worth the sub on its own. Thank you. Some of you may be interested in this new book by John MacKenna, ABSENT Friend, a meditation on a decades long friendship with Leonard Cohen.

Tracy Emin ?
Why ?
Nick Cave and Tracey Emin, the two most influential artist of my life time, for their longevity, integrity, and evolution. IMO.
