When the oscars were watchable , Hitchcock could stand up & make an apparently impromptu droll speech , rather like the Hitchcock ‘bits at the beginning and end of The Hitchcock Hour. The author of this book seems to have taken his public words a bit too literally ( which seems to be a modern problem that people are lacking in any sense of irony), as Hitchcock said he only wanted to entertain & he succeeded superbly.
Yes though comment above by Tony passed through ok-perhaps its the number of times? Whoever created ‘The Moderator’ is a bit like that Monty Python joke on phrase books ‘my hovercraft is full of eels’.their knowledge of English is limited.
I call her Dame Cressida. Found a while ago shortened version Richard sets off the alarm. Don’t know how they would deal with a biography actor in Mary Poppins, Diagnosis Murder etc as he is D van D-two naughties in one name1
The other was George Martin, the Beatles’ record producer.

The Chesterton Hitch would have read in childhood was still an Anglican. He converted to Catholicism in 1922, when Hitch was already a few years into his twenties.

A fascinating piece which I hope more people will read come the weekend.
I very much agree. What a strange but gifted man he was. Many will no doubt disagree, but I much prefer “North by North-West” or “Strangers on a Train” to “Psycho”.

If Hitchcock were alive today he’d be apologizing to all Womxn, and China.

Interesting article. Remarkable how similar Hitchcock sounds to his fellow Leytonstonian (and dandy!) David Beckham.

From this review, it appears that an entire book was written on Hitchcock without mention of his greatest film, judged to be the greatest motion picture ever made, the haunting VERTIGO. Nor does the book address the best Hitchcock blonde, Kim Novak. How can this be?

A good appraisal of Hitchcock. You might have mentioned his apprenticeship at UFA, where he learnt a lot about expressionist lighting and camerawork, which was well understood in the Hollywood of the 30s and 40s.
Hitchcock was one of the two famous old boys of my school. I believe the other was an Irish rebel who was executed.

Hitch would have approved-the last half of his name means my comment is awaiting for approval.

Yes but they cancel one another out
HaHA, I suspected so – the full word for roaches has my comment above ‘awaiting for approval’.
Try Cressida Phallus.
There was a racehorse in the 1960s called m**f Diver

It deserves it.
