I agree with the author on loss of confidence in the media, especially the broadcast media. I am following current events closely, as very many of us are, but I watch hardly any TV, certainly not “news” because it generates more heat than light.

It is impossible to suppress the feeling that many of the political activists and campaigners masquerading as journalists see the Covid-19 pandemic as a heaven sent opportunity to promote their careers. I cannot dissociate them from the story, which should be the point at which they step down. But there is no chance of that.

When this is all over, I want action on phasing out the BBC licence fee. And changing the way in which Channel 4 is financed. I don’t want to have to pay for propaganda I don’t watch. If these organisations are so convinced of the quality of their output, they should be confident I will be willing to pay for it.

How true. The sad thing is that there are still swathes of the population, often the elderly, who still garner their ‘news’ exclusively from the BBC, despite this organisation having nothing in common with its illustrious founders. The BBC abuses this trust appallingly.
