→ Humza Yousaf calls for EDL to be proscribed as terrorist group

Former first minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf has been relatively quiet since leaving office, enjoying the new-found free time to focus on his fitness. He has today, however, waded into serious political matters once more.

In a letter to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, Yousaf called for the English Defence League to be proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the wake of the Southport riots which injured 39 police officers.

Yousaf argued: “It is time we took on the English Defence League and the evil ideology that drives them.” He said that EDL thugs had hijacked the murder of children for their own “nefarious purposes” and were “chanting the most vile Islamophobia ever witnessed on the streets of the UK”. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has today said she is open to proscribing the group. Is that likely to stamp out racist violence?

White and multiracial respondents also exceeded black and hispanic youth on their reports on sadness. White parents, meanwhile, are more likely to report that their children’s emotions are “intense”. → Kamala Harris loses older voters

The Democrats’ presumptive presidential nominee Kamala Harris has had an enlivening effect on the party’s voter base. Weariness with Joe Biden has turned into at least a glimmer of hope with Kamala.

Unsurprisingly, considering her wholesale acceptance of internet culture and the fact that she has rappers such as Quavo and Megan Thee Stallion performing at her rallies, Harris is polling well with younger voters. Compared to Biden’s chances against Donald Trump, Harris is up 29 points with voters aged 18-29 and up 33 points with Hispanic voters.

Surprisingly, though, the polling shows she is down 5 points with black voters. More concerning for her electoral chances is that for voters over 65, Harris is down 9 points on Biden. Looks like being “brat” only gets you so far…
