Description

Campaigns to protect free speech are often led by those on the Right, who see themselves as facing an oppressive culture of political correctness.

At last night’s launch of Toby Young’s Free Speech Union, however, Trevor Philips made the case that it is ultimately minority voices and cultures that are vulnerable if the right to free and dissenting voices is not vigorously defended.

“The danger is to those who hold minority viewpoints,” he said, recalling when he was criticising police treatment of young black men and women back in the 1980s and it was considered totally unacceptable.
