I think the simple truth behind Melania’s statement on abortion is that she’s saying once and for all: I have my own brain, I did not cede it at the altar when I said “I do” .
Also, go easy on her for the skin comment. To native speakers, it comes off a bit odd, but as someone who spends her life speaking a foreign language, I can say that, even if your language proficiency is high, you do still say stuff that “clangs” a bit, and maybe Melania didn’t want these little language imperfections to be ironed out in the editing because it wouldn’t sound like her (and there’d be MORE criticism). And maybe she’s just proud of her nice skin. Wish I could be proud of mine, but the genetic gods weren’t quite so benevolent to me on that front.
