I appreciate the discussion, but have to object to Emily’s repeated use of “shot at” when referring to what happened to Trump.
He was hit by a bullet. The man was “shot”, not just shot at.
In the US military you can get a bronze star for being hit by a bullet the way Trump was, but not for being shot at. It’s a real distinction.

I appreciate the attempt at even-handedness vis a vis the intensity of rancor on each side. However, the infrastructure available to the Left for expressing their ideology dwarfs the puny media resources of the Right. It is telling that you have to reach back to Sarah Palin’s ambivalent “targets” as an example of extremism on the Right while one need go back only hours or days to find multiple recent explicit examples from the Left combined with a persistent strain of the same since 2016.
