Tommy Robinson has claimed that he has been invited to the United States by the Trump administration. Posting on X this afternoon, the far-Right activist said he was “in America making alliances & friendships”, adding: “Today I had the privilege of an invite to the [Department of State.]” Joe Rittenhouse, a State Department advisor, responded to the post by calling Robinson a “free speech warrior” and stating: “The World and the West is a better place when we fight for freedom of speech and no one has been on the front lines more than Tommy. Good to see you my friend!”

During Trump’s first term, Robinson had been scheduled to meet  Republican members of Congress in Washington, but was denied entry to the US over his criminal record and a previous attempt to enter the country using a friend’s passport. Last week it was reported that the activist had traveled to America, despite additional travel restrictions for foreign nationals with criminal convictions.

Robinson posted a video to YouTube on Thursday, titled “I’ve landed in the USA | This Is My Warning to America”, in which he declared an “emotional attachment” to the country and said: “I’ve dreamed about this moment for so long.” He also claimed that the 2020 election which Trump lost was a “robbery”. Since then, Robinson has uploaded over 20 videos to his channel, including interviews with Florida representative Randy Fine and Trump appointee Kari Lake, a conversation with podcaster Tim Pool, and a review of a steak restaurant in Washington D.C. He has also shared a picture of himself meeting with former Trump national security advisor Michael Flynn.

Robinson today lobbied to go on Tucker Carlson’s podcast, writing in a post: “You pretended you never heard of me, you chatted shit when you come to Britain , I’m in America let’s meet & talk.” During his time at Fox, Carlson had interviewed the activist in 2018 after his release from prison. Robinson had been convicted of contempt of court for broadcasting a live video from outside Leeds Crown Court.

Last month, following the operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Robinson called on Trump to invade and “free” the UK. He referred to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer as a “dodgy communist dictator […] who is allowing violent invaders to pour into the country’s communities, who are killing, raping and pillaging”. He added, alongside a picture of the front door of Number 10 Downing Street: “This is where he hides under armed guard. Coordinates:  51°30’12” N, 0°07’39” W.”

Robinson has previously attacked Starmer’s alleged crackdown on freedom of speech in the UK, as well as arguing that only Trump, US Vice President JD Vance and X boss Elon Musk “truly defend free speech”. In September, Musk spoke via video link at a Unite the Kingdom rally led by Robinson, in which he told the crowd: “You either fight back or you die.”
