→ Over a quarter of Reform voters prefer Greens to Tories
For all that Farage and co. at Reform UK have bashed Net Zero, a sizeable percentage of their voters may not agree.
A new poll from YouGov shows that 27% of Reform voters prefer the Greens to the Tories. Now, it’s impossible to know whether this is out of genuine environmentalism or pure hatred for the Conservative Party. But it is a further sign that the Tories have a mountain to climb.
The polling also found that Conservative voters prefer the Lib Dems to Reform by 51% to 49%, only lending slight credence to the calls from moderates for the Tories not to move Rightward. The polling never stops…
→ GOP winning over young Americans
The Republican Party is making headway with nearly every demographic, including young people.
Voters aged 18-34 are equally likely to find the two parties “stale” (at 48%) and equally likely to believe each party represents their views (39%). It’s a major upswing for the GOP, which was trailing Democrats in those categories by 14 and 19 points respectively in 2020. The polling concluded right before the June presidential debate — which probably didn’t help Democrats’ image with the young.
Biden, obviously, is old, and he’s presided over US support for Israel’s war in Gaza, neither of which are helping his credibility with young people. Trump, meanwhile, may be boosting his standing by saying he’s “for TikTok” — he’s a Boomer, yes, but he’s a Zoomer’s Boomer. Age is but a number.
→ Reagan’s almost-assassin calls for peace
The attempted assassination of Donald Trump appears to have won the former president a surprising ally: John Hinckley Jr.
Violence is not the way to go. Give peace a chance.
— John Hinckley (@JohnHinckley20) July 17, 2024
The would-be assassin, who shot Ronald Reagan more than 40 years ago, has called for a lowering of the temperature and for the nation to turn away from violence. “Violence is not the way to go,” he wrote. “Give peace a chance.”
The post was immediately swamped with comments alternately praising him for shooting Reagan in ‘81, expressing regret that he hadn’t killed him, and begging him to try his hand at a Trump assassination. Fortunately for Trump, Hinckley, who is presently focusing on his music career, is a changed man now. Maybe he can play the inauguration.

SubscribeMost of the people who identify as conservative have already switched to Reform so not surprised the majority of those left are actually liberals.
This is why I (and millions of others) will never vote Conservative again.
Like many people, I vaguely supported the Greens for many years. They were decent, concerned environmentalists, were they not? Over the past decade they seem to have mutated into a radical progressive party. I suspect Reform voters, if they troubled to look further into the Greens, would not be too pleased with what they find.
Awkward finding that first story for the Faragista Right. Yet get out of the echo chamber and it’s clear – overall folks support the Net Zero direction.
Depends on how you poll them. Ask “do you support lowering emissions?” and support is sky high. Ask “do you want to spend tens of thousands to upgrade your home so that a heat pump will work effectively, and install a heat pump”, or about any other of the specific measures which would have to be taken to actually implement Net Zero, and support drops precipitously.
I think people rightly want to avoid preventable evils, but net zero is somehow sold as a comfortable way of fixing things in the short term, when it’s really meant to dodge various catastrophic scenarios in 50-100 years. What people aren’t made aware of is that climate change is happening and that we should be looking now at ways to mitigate their effects on our country. It should be seen as a part of national defence. Borders should be hardened because we cannot absorb millions of climate refugees. Policies for food and energy security should be developed.
I find that very hard to believe
