→ Crime in US cities drops sharply
Crime is still falling in American cities, with a new report from Axios finding a 6% decline in violent crime in the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
Democrats are already taking a victory lap, per Axios, but the data suggests a slow return to normalcy after a historic surge in crime as American cities scaled back policing in 2020.
The outlet doesn’t compare 2024 to 2019, owing to NYC declining to turn over their more recent data to the Major Cities Chiefs Association. But the organisation reported a surge in homicide (25%) and aggravated assault (11.6) from 2019 to 2020, while other data sets show that violent crime spiked 5.5% from 2019 to 2020. So the drift back to normalcy is not exactly a slam dunk. Can Democrats rebrand as the law and order party?
→ CNN becomes a late night laughing stock
No one — including the presumably Left-leaning audience of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show — believes CNN is a wholly objective outlet.
Not even NYC lefties buy CNN as objective. @colbertlateshow audience laughed when Stephen #Colbert asserted: “I know you guys are objective over there, that you just report the news as it is” @KaitlanCollins: “That supposed to be a laugh line?” Colbert: “It wasn’t supposed to be” pic.twitter.com/IfqNEDPrfa

CNN anchor Kaitlin Collins, a guest on the show last night, was discussing Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 race when Colbert remarked that CNN was “objective,” and that they “just report the news as it is,” only to be met with laughter from the audience.
“Was that supposed to be a laugh line?” Collins asked. “It wasn’t supposed to be, but I guess it is,” Colbert said, to another round of audience laughter. A friendly audience isn’t always a good thing.
→ Greenwich council offers residents bizarre robbery lesson
As Britain seems to be returning to some semblance of law and order after last week’s riots, Greenwich council has shared some handy advice for its residents of the still-crime-ridden capital.
The animated video is designed for “Theft and Robbery Awareness”. The stellar advice it doles out includes, “Be mindful of your surroundings, especially if you’re wearing designer clothes or jewellery, as you could become a target for thieves.” So, Meantimers must keep all nice things under lock and key.
Stay safe when you’re out…
Don’t confront a thief – holding onto your possessions is not worth risking your safety. Register your valuables at @ImmobiliseCrime so you are more likely to get them back if they are stolen.#StaySafe #theftprevention pic.twitter.com/oFBfLtiJdz

SubscribeNever mind. After five years of Labour no one will have anything worth nicking, the state having got there first.
The same can be said if there are four more years of leftist Democrat rule
in the United States…
Kinda sad. People wear their designer clothes and expensive jewelry so peons like us know our place on the class ladder. They’re also a means, especially for women, to display their beauty. They have dermatologists on speed dial. I don’t.
That sounds very bitter. Not an attractive trait.
The drop in crime is mostly the back side of the Covid era spike in crime. It is not an improvement over pre-Covid levels. Rest assured, Americans have not lost their taste for mayhem. Additionally, some of what appears to be improvement in numbers is merely a broad effort to redefine what constitutes crime, the most prevalent example being the resetting of the threshold for felony property crime in dollar amounts. In many cities a $500 theft used to be a felony but is no longer, $1,000 being the new benchmark.
Also, in jurisdictions where prosecutors stopped bringing many types of crime to court due to progressive “social justice” politics, police stopped arresting for those categories of crimes and criminals. Why arrest criminals who will not be prosecuted? Finally, the American Left enabled the Covid era spike via relentless messaging in Democratic-controlled jurisdictions and in the media that violent demonstrations in the wake of the George Floyd incident were justified and would not be suppressed. “Defund the Police” was the mantra and the message was embraced by legions of derelicts who wrought havoc until the foolishness became too obvious to ignore. Democrats taking credit for a drop in crime is just spin for the election.
Spot on.
Crime statistics may have gone down. Crime has done no such thing. It’s the REPORTING of crime that’s decreased. I call bullshit on that. Those books are cooked.
If you legalize crime then it’s no longer a crime. Theft is so bad in NY and LA basic goods are locked up at stores but that no longer counts.
