Badenoch seems to be a genuine intellectual, which is a contrast to Starmer and Reeves who seem rather philistine to put it mildly.

rather philistine
Or just plain thick, to put it bluntly.

No plan on how to stop the boats. She gave the whole topic the swerve and was allowed to do so.

I suspect she thinks that the boats won’t be an issue by 2029 because Labour will have found a way to import all these people without exposing them to the elements in that way.

Kemi’s biggest problem will be uniting what is left of the Conservative party behind her. I would like to see her do it, but I think it is beyond anyone’s ability to do. Having said that, by focusing on principles and not on policies which are totally irrelevant when you are not in power to enact them she may just about be able to redefine what being Conservative actually means and then all those left in the party who are not Conservative can leave.

“…I’m not a climate sceptic…” Well, she jolly well ought to be. That gulf between what believers wish for others and their adjustments to their own lifestyles and consumption habits are a precise fit to what Kemi described as “luxury beliefs”.
