I rarely watch/listen to the msm anymore, but I sometimes hear ABC news on my car radio. This morning an ABC reporter strongly refuted claims by Trump and Republicans that the federal rescue effort was insufficient and under-resourced. Trump’s claims were characterized as unhelpful fake news. We can only hope the majority of Americans no longer trust the msm.

The reality is that any organisation needs to select, train and test people who can cope with these conditions. In this situation it means people have the ability to wade through cold water and walk up steep slopes for miles carrying 60lb of equipment into driving sleet in the hourly hours of the morning. In extreme winds, rain, in the dark, roads washed away; the only way to get supplies into remote areas may be walking and/or using mules. As well as as fitness, people need to be selected and trained and tested to be able to operate in cold windy wet conditions which can induce hyperthermia very quickly, even in summer. Also people need to go without sleep sleep for three days. Some people collapse after 16 hours without sleep and need eight hours.
In Britain, Mountain Rescue, Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Air Sea Rescue recruit people who can work in extreme conditions.
The most important aspect is calibre of those in organisation. Unless the organisation has the people with the courage and competence of Richard Evans, twice awarded the Gold Medal ( equivalent to VC/GC ), money will be wasted. div > p:nth-of-type(4) > a”>Richard Evans (lifeboatman) – Wikipedia
The ability say the right things to the right person in a warm room is not a test for operating in the most extreme conditions.
The reality is that in emergencies most people freeze.
In emergencies people need to react within minutes, work as a team and know when to ignore rules, and be indifferent to pain and danger.
