YouGov: 280 characters divides Twitter
Douglas Murray’s piece ‘Can we survive this era of anti-social media?’ on UnHerd today looks at the problems that are arising from the ever growing influence of social media. The immediate ability to respond to those who disagree – without having to look them in the eye – can result in bigger fallout out than would have been experienced in the pre-social media age. Will Twitter’s recent decision to double the amount its users can say help them explain their point more politely or just give the more space to hurl abuse? Twitters users are divided on the matter as shown by recent YouGov polling showing that 38% of its users prefer 280 characters, 32% prefer 180.
