Former Romanian PM proposes new Macron-esque party
Bucharest has long proclaimed itself as the “Paris of the East”. So perhaps it is no surprise that former Romanian PM Victor Ponta is launching a new political party in the genre of French President Emmanuel Macron’s Republique en Marche.
According to Politico Europe, Pro Romania is intended to be neither populist nor the staid, same-old left-versus-right.
Of course, Ponta has more of a theme than a platform or set of ideas: the party has yet to stand for anything and it is still working on its ideology. The general idea – adapt or die – is nonetheless sound. If he can get this right, perhaps Ponta can help build a bridge to a new Europe.
