Underwhelming report

Not least, because Aris Roussinos produced a far more interesting and insightful article on these events in Belfast just the day before.
On this occasion, poor commissioning from Unherd.

If you cannot differentiate between a riot and a protest, then I suggest you seek a different line of work.

Unlike the other commenters, I like this neutral/dispassionate description of the event. I am strongly on the we-must-control-this-insane-immigration side of the argument, but I like just getting facts, and deciding what to think about those facts. The more common way of writing an article in 2024 is to tell readers what to think about an incident, which leaves them to try to figure out the facts.

All the insouciance and curated ennui we might expect from a metropolitan on tour in Belfast.

Good article. I feel the NI peace agreement is deeply corrosive to the UK. I say this as an Irish republican ( true pluralist tradition) . It enshrines, cultivates and celebrates ethnic identity. In a land with no written constitution, I cant help but feel like the British state is too weak to promote an egalatsrisn positive vision.

Whatever anyone thinks about this demo, and others that will follow, something that gets two sets of people walking together who would normally refuse even to breathe the same air, should be enough to wake up even the dead eyed, soulless and venal politicians on both sides of that border.

And the same on this side of the water.
