So many good films mentioned in this interview. Charlie Varrick is also a huge favourite of mine, and I saw The Phantom of The Paradise on a double-bill early in 1976 with The Rocky Horror Picture Show when Rocky Horror was becoming a thing and all the buzz was about it, and not the barely heard-of Phantom. But I loved the Phantom from the off and have never been interested in the Rocky Horror. I also went straight out the next day after school and bought the Phantom soundtrack (on cassette). “Carburettors, man…”
I also love that you’re into Ozploitation, Quentin, which was the backdrop to my 1970s and early 80s.

What I had in mind was boxing the compass!
